WHY I CHOSE BIOCHEMESTRY?

Hello Everyone!

Well, when was I child I wanted to be a Soccer Player. I grew up watching championships like the Champions League or the Premier League, motivating me to continue training so that I could one day play in them. Currently I still have that dream, in fact every time I listen to their anthem or watch a Champions League game I get excited and it makes me want to play soccer again.

Over the years I began to like science, specifically biology and chemistry. I had the opportunity to participate in several scientific fairs that encouraged my desire to learn more about viruses, bacteria, plants and the human body and how they work. That is why, in my last year of school, I had 5 careers in mind: Medicine, Biology, Chemical Civil Engineering, Medical Technology and Biochemistry. Finally, I chose biochemistry because the course of the career covered a lot of content that I liked and interested me quite a lot. In addition, it was going to allow me to have knowledge about the different biochemical and physiological processes that organisms carry out in order to survive.

When I started studying biochemistry in 2020 I never thought it would be through virtual classes, in fact I imagined a university environment where I could play sports and share with my classmates and teachers. The saddest thing about this situation is not being able to attend the laboratories in a normal way. However, I have been able to meet new people that today I consider as friends and who have been super important to my mental health in this time of pandemic and virtual classes.

In the future I would like to work in the health area, I am interested in clinical biochemistry, specifically  the field of immunology and virology. Also, I would also like to dedicate myself to clinical research.

I will be back with another blog soon, goodbye.

  1. Hi Jose, I was hesitating almost with the same careers as you, and I also stayed with Biochemistry.
Yes, it was quite sad not to be able to enter the university in person, but hopefully next year you will be able to live the university life in a normal way.
